A study on the cognitive problems and sleep in the elderly

Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the perception about cognitive problem and sleep problem among Koreans using the data from the Community Health Survey (CHS).

Methods: We examined the differences in the perceptions about hand washing and health statuses of 69,077 of the 2018 CHS. The sample was divided into groups and define the names of each group. Participants¡¯ demographic characteristics were analyzed using frequency, and cognitive problem and sleep problem parameters were analyzed with t-tests.

Results: There were significant differences in subjective quality of sleep, difficulty falling asleep, waking
up while sleeping, difficulty breathing during sleep, nightmare, and pain during sleep between with cognitive problem group and without cognitive problem(p-0.00).

Conclusion: As a result of the study, it was possible to identify cognitive and sleep problems in the elderly.
These results could be used as a basis for preparing sleep-related programs in cognitive intervention.
